Channel Characterization and SC-FDM Modulation for PLC in High-Voltage Power Lines

Digital communication over power lines is an active field of research and most studies in this focus on low-voltage (LV) medium-voltage (MV) systems. Nevertheless, as companies are starting to provide services smart-grid technologies being incorporated into networks, high-voltage (HV) power-line has become attractive. The main constraint conventional HV carrier (PLC) systems their unfeasibility for migrated wideband channels, even with a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In scenario, none the current linear/non-linear equalizers used single schemes achieve complete compensation highly dispersive conditions, which limits operation 4 kHz channels. paper, new PLC-channel model introduced transmission incorporating effects coupling equipment. addition, use single-carrier frequency-division modulation (SC-FDM) proposed solution operate PLC wide bandwidth, achieving speeds above those system. results presented paper demonstrate superior performance SC-FDM-PLC systems, obtaining higher capacity 10 30 times.
